Kicking the habit

It's been long overdue. It really has.
What I've undertaken is not so much a diet per say, but a complete change in diet, beginning but not ending with the removal of Coke and it's ilk, including the finest in Scottish cuisine: venerable MacDonalds. Thus far I've been able to make it one week without either the divine liquid or addictive fast food. For me, that's an accomplishment.

Now, this is not the only change that I've undertaken - I'm actually starting to think about what I eat day in and day out, which for those who know, or have lived with me, it is something that I do very rarely. Whereas before I might have considered a large popcorn at the movies a good dinner to have I've begun to rethink several of my eating habits. In the short term this has lead me to packing my lunch every day, which has not only made me eat better but also spending less money in the meantime.

Why the change? I wish that I could say it was because of some high minded ideal whereby my body is a temple or I want to be around for the Golden Years of my life and all that other crap.
Nope. I'm vain.
I'm a single guy and I'd like to look better. Now, this is a way for me to train myself, for in the past my resolve for these kinds of personal improvement things have been piss poor at best, which is all my own fault. This time, I have my friend Becca acting as my nutritionist, advising me how to eat and what to eat. The best thing is that I don't really have to give up anything, I just have to be aware of what I eat, which is a very foreign concept to me especially when I think back to my Princess Towers where my health decisions were whether to get the poutine instead of fries at Burger King or how many chili hotdogs I should purchase from Dairy Queen. Oh yeah, I hung out with royalty.

In other news, if you get a chance, go to the zoo in the winter. I've been wanting go for a while and so I tried to get a group together, which then fell through due to a lack of automobile on my part, and then the plan re-emerged like a phoenix from the ashes thanks to my friend Brent's possesion of vehicular transportation. So two weekends ago five of us piled into his car and went out to the zoo not really knowing what to expect, so we were all pleasantly surprised to have such a good time. Normally the zoo is chock a block full of silly children that get on your nerves until you want everyone in the population sterilized for everyone's protection. That being said, there was hardly anyone around during our time there - we could lesuirly walk to and fro amongst the pavilions and see the monkeys play or the orangutans (sp?) right up against the glass. It was pretty cool to say the least. I'd like to go back sometime soon and spend the whole day there. (so what if we got somewhat lost on our way?).
