I'm sorry . . . I normally hate politics

I try to stay out of politics, mostly due to the fact that I consider myself not that well informed and also I got sick of it after 5 years at Queen's.

That being said, I don't think that anyone can in good conscience vote for Stephen Harper, or allow him to become Prime Minister. I believe that Canada's recent increasingly liberal attitudes, especially those towards gay marriage, are a positive change for the country. I believe that we should not being moving towards becoming more like the American government both in our tax system and in our medical system. Harper, from what I have read and understand, is a proponent of our neighbours to the south and wants this country to move closer to the United States. He would have sent our troops to the ill-conceived war in Iraq. He would in all probability endorse a two tier health care system and make bad decisions for this country. The economic plan concocted by his party makes no sense and does not add up.

I also cannot stand the man.

Now the Liberals are no saints. Their infighting, egos and nepotism prevented them from fully taking advantage of their years in office.

Well, they took advantage alright . . . . .

The Liberals were greedy, duplicitous, and prone to scandal. Who knows what they'll do in office again?

Where the hell does that leave us? I can't vote NDP. I would like to but it is my belief that voting for a candidate that has no chance of winning simply as a way of protest does not work. It is also my belief that people using this way of thinking and voting for Ralph Nader in the last U.S. presidential election helped to give the White House to the least effective president since Coolidge. I get the same goose bumps about Harper that I have about Bush Jr.

That being said, it is my hope that there is a minority Liberal government, with the balance of power being held by the NDP. That way Harper can be prevented from having his fingers all over the selection of Supreme Court Justices and re-opening the debate on a woman's right to choose, among other things. It is my belief and hope that a Liberal minority will be checked sufficiently by their low numbers in the House that there will not be a return to the scandal-plagued past. I am angry with the Liberals over the past few years of mis-management and corruption.

Who loses one billion dollars?

WHO? HONESTLY?

What were they thinking?

When these scandals were uncovered all they gave the Canadian public in response were arrogant pathetic excuses. Their belief was, "Hey who ya gonna vote for? Two right wing parties? I think not plebian. Now go out there and give me four more years."
I am not forgiving nor forgetting these past few years of Liberal waste and in-fighting.

In my little world I am voting Liberal to give them one last chance. I do not want someone in power that will act on an ideology that is alien to my own. The Liberals seem to be the only party that can form the government, while remaining as close to the values that I find are important to this country.

God help them though if they pull their old crap again.

and for god's sake, go out and vote.
